At Future Stars Sports Academy, we're more than just a youth sports program—we're a trusted institution dedicated to nurturing young athletes both on and off the court. Founded in 1995 by Jim Olayos, a seasoned coach with over 40 years of experience in sports, our academy has grown from a innovative basketball initiative in Connecticut to a comprehensive program now expanding to California.
Our Founder: Jim Olayos, America's Most Caring Coach
Jim Olayos, President of Future Stars Sports Academy, has dedicated his career to youth development. A graduate of Fairfield University and Quinnipiac School of Law, Jim has coached at every level, from high school (including as head coach at Masuk High School, where he earned the New York Daily News Coach of the Year Award) to assisting in the McDonald's All-American Game.
In 2000, Jim was honored as America's Most Caring Coach by USA Today Weekend Magazine for creating a program that combines top-tier sports instruction with life lessons. His unique approach has earned him recognition as one of the top 100 most influential people in Connecticut high school sports and a spot on the World Kindness USA National Advisory Board for Athletics in 2019.
A Legacy of Excellence and Media Recognition
Future Stars has been celebrated for its groundbreaking blend of athletics and education. Our signature "Lessons of Life" curriculum teaches values like friendship, health, responsibility, and sportsmanship alongside basketball fundamentals—using posters, homework assignments, and real-world applications to make learning fun and impactful.
We've been featured prominently in major outlets:
The New York Times (2000 article: "Coaching for Success on and Off the Court") highlighted how Future Stars transforms youth sports by integrating life skills, reaching thousands of children across Connecticut.
USA Today spotlighted Jim's caring approach that earned him national acclaim.
Jim has also presented our program to prestigious organizations, including the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS), Youth Basketball of America (YBOA), and The After School Corporation (TASC).
What Sets Future Stars Apart
Age-Appropriate Training: For boys and girls ages 4-7 (and beyond in other programs), we use lowered baskets, junior-sized basketballs, and tailored equipment to build confidence and fundamentals.
Grouped by Age and Ability: Ensuring every child gets the best experience.
Year-Round Programs: After-school sessions, weekend clinics, summer camps, and more—in basketball, multi-sport, and expanding offerings.
Now in Connecticut and California: The most popular youth program in Connecticut is bringing its proven success westward!
Thousands of families have trusted Future Stars over the decades, with parents raving about the confidence, skills, and life lessons their children gain. As one parent shared: "After nearly 40 years in sports, I do not think I have ever been around a program like Future Stars."
